This module has been developed to help Residential Aged Care staff understand how to recognise behaviours of concern, identify and modify triggers, support the person and others from harm, using best practice and positive behaviour support strategies. It will focus on the directives of the Aged Care Quality Standards in responding to behaviours of concern that require restrictive interventions, so that resident safety and dignity are understood and applied to the workplace.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand workplace expectations, in relation to Australian Legislation
  2. Understand the causes of behaviours of concern in consumers, including people with dementia
  3. Recognise and address the triggers that can escalate behaviours of concern
  4. Apply positive behaviour support strategies in line with consumer safety and dignity
  5. Use restrictive interventions where needed, for the safety of the consumer and others, in line with legislation
