Welcome to the Ventilator Support (High Intensity Training Series) module.
In this module, you will learn the basics of the respiratory system and understand when and how to use the BiPAP/CPAP devices with a face mask or via a tracheostomy. You will also gain the skills to troubleshoot common issues, manage emergencies, and follow individualised care plans while ensuring effective communication with participants and healthcare professionals.
By the end of this module, you will be better able to:
- Outline the basic structure of the respiratory system
- Explain when and why the BiPAP, CPAP or tracheostomy are used for ventilation
- Outline the essential equipment for BiPAP/CPAP via a tracheostomy and how to troubleshoot common tracheostomy equipment issues
- Explain the support worker's role and responsibilities in managing ventilation and the importance of communication with the participant and healthcare professionals
This module offers an introduction to the theory. It is advised that the learner complement this with a practical demonstration.
