Welcome to the Medication Administration for NDIS Support Workers (Disability Series) module.

The module is designed to equip Support Workers working within the NDIS framework with the knowledge and skills to support safe, respectful, and effective medication management.

By the end of this module, you will be better able to:

  • Understand the responsibilities of care team members in supporting safe medication practices under the NDIS
  • Recognise and respect the rights of NDIS participants regarding medication use, including consent, dignity, and self administration
  • Explain how medication management aligns with NDIS Practice Standards and provider obligations
  • Know where and how to seek help for medication-related concerns
  • Apply safe procedures for the storage and disposal of medications in line with policy and environmental safety
  • Describe and apply the Eight Rights of Medication Administration to ensure accuracy, safety and compliance
  • Support participants in self-administering medication safely, respecting their independence and care plans
  • Identify when to involve health professionals and understand the limits of the support worker role
  • Respond appropriately to contingencies such as participant refusal, including documentation and reporting
  • Recognise and prevent medication errors, adverse reactions and take immediate action when necessary
  • Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement in medication management  

This module offers an introduction to the theory. It is advised that the learner complement this with a practical demonstration.
