The Aged Care Quality Standards and Medication Management for Nurses
- Understand the rights of the consumer in relation to medication administration, in line with Standard 1 of the Aged Care Quality Standards: Consumer Dignity and Choice.
- Know when choice and control apply to consumers who wish to self- administer or refuse to take medications.
- Work actively to improve clinical outcomes outlined in Aged Care Quality Standard 3: Personal Care and Clinical care, including reducing the risk of medication mistakes, managing pain, and minimising chemical restraint.
