Working Confidently with PEG Tubes (DS)


Support workers may be required to assist with personal care for a participant who has a PEG (Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy) tube.

This course provides a basic introduction to PEG tubes theory and must be accompanied by a physical demonstration of a participant’s specific equipment and its use.

Information in this course should also be read in conjunction with your organisation’s policies and procedures.

  • Understand Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy or PEG
  • Identify the professionals in the care team and their roles Understand how nutrition and hydration is delivered via a PEG tube
  • Provide psychosocial and holistic care to a person with a PEG tube
  • Troubleshoot PEG-related complications

This course offers a fundamental introduction to the theory. It is advised that the learner complement this with a practical demonstration.
